The leading long-range shooter in NCAA history won't be putting away that rapid-fire right arm yet, though.
Day is one of several players from around the country who have been invited to New Orleans this weeked to participate in a couple of marksmanship contests that will be held as a part of the Final Four Weekend.
Sunday night, Day will be one of a field of eight competing in the College Basketball Slam Dunk and Three-Point Shooting Championship, which is co-sponsored by Intersport of Chicago and ESPN. The event at Fogelman Arena will be carried live by the cable television network at 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
Day's competitors are Calbert Cheaney of Indiana, Bobby Hurley of Duke, Nick Van Exel of Cincinnati, Allan Houston of Tennessee, Lindsey Hunter of Jackson State, Evric Gray of Nevada-Las Vegas and Lucious Harris of Long Beach State.
"It's supposed to be a lot of fun, but I'm sure there will be a lot of pressure, too," Day said. "It's an honor to be invited to an event with athletes of that caliber."
Day holds Division I records for 3-pointers made (401) and attempted (1,068). He scored 2,027 points in his four-year career.
Day also is scheduled to participate in the first-ever Sprint Long Distance Challenge - another 3-point shooting match - which is earlier Sunday at halftime of the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-Star Game at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans.
His challengers there include Ronnie Schmitz of Missouri-Kansas City, Mark Alberts of Akron and Bill Elliott of Mid-America Nazarene. Schmitz and Alberts battled Day all season before he pulled away for the NCAA 3-point record. Elliott is the NAIA leader with 467 3-pointers.
