2ND RESTAURANT CLOSED IN NEW E. COLI OUTBREAK

A second Sizzler restaurant was closed after health officials confirmed two people who ate there contracted a bacterial infection, officials said Monday.

Double S. Foods of Springfield closed its Sizzler restaurant in North Bend during the weekend.

The company also has hired an independent laboratory to test food samples at its Sizzler in Grants Pass, which closed Friday, said Murray Gast, the restaurants' director of operations.

Both closings were voluntary.

Two cases of infection with the bacteria E. coli O157:H7 were confirmed among people who ate at the North Bend Sizzler and two probable cases have been identified, said Dr. William E. Keene, clinical epidemiologist for the Oregon Health Division. - Associated Press
