Connex still working on Botetourt plans

Gil Gardner, president of Connex Pipe Systems of Marietta, Ohio, said Monday he is working "very hard" to reach agreement on a Troutville building as a site for its fabricated-pipe business.

Gardner said the Botetourt County site is the only one under consideration.

Connex officials and regional economic developers confirmed last week there were snags in the real estate negotiations. For more than a month, Connex has talked of bringing about 250 jobs to the Botetourt County building, former home of RIB Detention Systems, if terms can be arranged.- Staff report

Axton-Bachelors Hall toll charges to stay

Not enough telephone customers responded to a survey for the State Corporation Commission to order an end to toll charges between the Axton exchange in Henry County and the Bachelors Hall exchange in Pittsylvania County, the SCC said Monday. Under the plan, local monthly bills of Central Telephone Co. of Virginia (Centel) would have increased by $1.16 and toll charges would have been eliminated. - Staff report
