PIRATES' FARM HANDS FALL TO RED SOX TEAM 3-2

A Pasquale Arace popup with one out helped strand Tony Womack at third base with the tying run in the eighth inning and the Pittsburgh Pirates' Class A minor-leaguers went on to lose a 3-2 spring-training game to members of the Boston Red Sox organization at Bradenton, Fla.

Jose Garza took the loss after delivering a sixth-inning wild pitch that provided the Red Sox with the winning run. Joe Calder had a run-scoring double and Trace Ragland had a RBI sacrifice fly for the Pirates, who scored in the second and eighth.

Many members of both clubs will play for the Salem Buccaneers and the Lynchburg Red Sox of the Carolina League this summer.

The Pirates (2-5) have five games remaining before breaking camp April 5.
