MEDIA FEED RACIAL TENSIONS

FRANKLIN County High School has racial problems. Who doesn't? And until articles were written about an incident that happened more than a month ago, everything was just dandy.

First, let's get some things straight:

What the teacher said or did was wrong.

Most students did not even think twice about the situation. They realized it was wrong, but they knew the administration would take care of it.

The school's principal is a fine educator. The recent press has made him look like an unfair bigot.

The school took care of the problem, so why don't we leave it alone?

It seems to me the press wants to take us back to the '60s. The tension has been a little thicker recently, but the only thing causing tension is the media. KARL D. SHATLEY ROCKY MOUNT
