For years, volunteers have jumped from their warm beds to respond to a stranger or dangerous situation.
We ask for nothing in return for the many hours of training and lost sleep, exposure to harmful diseases and threatening situations, and what do we get? Grief.
The only difference between volunteers and paid career workers is volunteers don't get paid. Our standards and level of training are just as high. Our dedication is probably more than a paid career worker, because most employees would not take this grief from an employer before finding another job.
People, look at what you get for such a bargain price. Respect the volunteers for what they are. JUDY MABRY Captain, Mt. Pleasant First Aid ROANOKE
