2 KILLED IN MONDAY NIGHT COLLISION IN WYTHEVILLE

A Pulaski man and a Wytheville man were killed Monday night when a car in which they were passengers collided with a pickup truck.

Police identified the victims as Marvin D. Banes, 36, of Pulaski, and Robert T. Rakes, 37, of Wytheville.

The car driven by 32-year-old Larry Dewayne Bralley of Wytheville apparently was traveling east on U.S. 11 and attempting a left turn into the Lowe's Foods parking lot when the accident happened.

A pickup truck driven by Michael E. Peak, 19, of Max Meadows collided with the passenger side of the car.

Banes was thrown from the car. Rakes was trapped in the front seat and had to be freed by the Wythe County Rescue Squad. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers, two others in the car and a passenger in the pickup truck were injured, but not seriously.
