FOOTBALL EDWARDS STARS IN TECH SCRIMMAGE

Long touchdown runs by two redshirt freshmen, tailback Tommy Edwards and quarterback Christian Stillings, were among the highlights in a Virginia Tech football scrimmage Tuesday.

Edwards, from Radford High, scampered 72 yards for a touchdown early in the scrimmage. Stillings, a walk-on from Burke, ended the workout with a 47-yard touchdown run on the last play.

Free safety Torrian Gray led the Hokies' defense with six tackles, and end Bernard Basham of Roanoke had five. There were eight quarterback sacks.

Maurice DeShazo, Tech's No. 1 quarterback, did not complete a pass in four attempts. Backup Treg Koel was 2-of-4 for 19 yards and one interception, while redshirt freshman Jim Druckenmiller was 5-of-11 for 42 yards.
