First baseman Mike Brown slammed a two-run homer and had two singles as the Salem Buccaneers defeated the Port Charlotte (Fla.) Rangers 7-3 in a minor-league baseball exhibition game at Port Charlotte.
The Bucs scored four runs in the first inning and coasted behind five pitchers. Dennis Konuszewski and Mike Teich allowed all three Port Charlotte runs in the first five innings, but bullpen candidates Jim Martin, Kevin Rychel and Jeff McCurry shut down the Rangers on two hits in the final four innings.
Preliminary qualifying for Franklin County Speedway's season-opening race Saturday will be held tonight at 7 in Callaway. Gates will open at 3.
