OBIT PAYNE, ELMO MITCHELL
PAYNE, Elmo Mitchell, 68, of Roanoke, died Sunday, March 28, 1993 after a
lengthy illness. He was a charter member of North Roanoke Baptist Church, an
Air Corps veteran of World War II and a retired employee of Appalachian Power
Company with 42 years service. He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years,
Cora Mae Payne; three sons, J. Russell Payne and wife Carol, Lithonia, Ga.,
Steven L. Payne and wife, Sharon, Snellville, Ga., Ronald L. Payne and wife,
Linda, Roanoke; one daughter, Robbie P. Irvin and husband, Bill, Roanoke;
three grandchildren, Heather M. Payne, Lithonia, Ga., Mitchell S. Irvin and
Laura C. Irvin, both of Roanoke; one step grandchild, Robert Jameson,
Snellville, Ga.; two brothers, J. Sherman Payne and Nick D. Payne, both of
Roanoke. The family suggests memorials be made to the building fund of North
Roanoke Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March
31 at North Roanoke Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Darryl Crim officiating.
Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Oakey's North
Chapel where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Tuesday.
