OBIT MCCLANAHAN, STEWART
MCCLANAHAN, Stewart, ("Ed"), 99, of Marion, died Sunday, March 28, 1993, in
Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie. He worked as a brick mason for many
years, having helped build many of the structures in Southwest Virginia. He
was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday
School Superintendent for many years. He also served as PTA President at
Carnegie School. For many years he served as Treasurer of Mt. Moriah Masonic
Lodge #88 and was a member of the Holston Lodge #3911 of the Oddfellows, and
the Francis Marion VFW Post $4667. He was one of the few World War I veterans
in Smyth County. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy and a son,
Charles. He is survived by his wife, Helen Goble McClanahan of Chilhowie; one
daughter-in-law, Alice McClanahan of Gary, Ind.; numerous grandchildren;
great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held
Thursday, April 1, 19193 1 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with
Dr. Loren Dow officiating. Burial will follow in round Hill Cemetery where
full military rites will be conducted by Marion VFW Post #4667. The family
will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 until 8 at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
