Bassett

Bassett Furniture Industries, Bassett-based manufacturer of residential furniture, on Thursday reported 1992 net income of $26.7 million, or $2.31 per share, up 45 percent over $18.5 million, or $1.60 per share, a year earlier. Both years reflect the after-tax effect of unrealized gains on marketable securities. Net sales rose 18 percent to $473.4 million from $401.6 million.

In the fourth quarter, Bassett said net income was $8.8 million, or 76 cents per share, up 30 percent over year-earlier $6.8 million, or 59 cents per share. In the 1991 quarter, excluding the after-tax effect of unrealized loss on securities was $7.2 million or 63 cents per share. Sales in the quarter were $132 million, a 17 percent increase over $113.1 million in the 1991 fourth quarter.
