HOTEL IS NICE, BUT WHAT ABOUT PEOPLE?
WHILE I think it's admirable that Roanoke is coming together as a community to try to save the Hotel Roanoke, I can't help but wonder at our priorities. The Hotel Roanoke is part of Roanoke's history, a thing of the past. A grand collection of brick and mortar. It seems ludicrous to place such an effort on "saving" a hotel, when there are living, breathing, suffering people in the community who don't have a home or money for food or health care.
Our efforts should be directed toward those who represent Roanoke's present and future. The true "key to Roanoke's renewal" is its people.
Think of the difference $3 million could make. If you do make a contribution to the Hotel Roanoke fund, please consider making an equal contribution to one of the community service organizations, such as the Good Neighbors Fund. MARSHA VIA RADFORD
