NO LONGER A SILENT MAJORITY
IN REFERENCE to Mr. Geoff Seamans' column of Dec. 20: His opening remark, "I can't fully appreciate the circumstances that led Daniel Schneck to resign," hit the nail on the head. As evidenced by his subsequent remarks, he completely missed the point. He and others have made this incident to be a hate campaign against Mr. Schneck, based upon his limited experience with the reported "facts" and next to no investigative effort.
The real reason that the "so-called Christians" of Montgomery County are opposed to the issue of renaming the public school system's break periods (from "Christmas" to "winter" break and "Easter" to "spring" break) is not anti-Semitism. It is a symptom that those who espouse to be Christian are no longer willing to be the silent majority.
The names given to the break periods, and the very reason the breaks were created to begin with, are based on the observance of Christian celebrations. Our country's motto remains, "In God We Trust."
If we allow secularism to continue to attempt to dominate our society, as it has been attempting to since the assassination of John F. Kennedy, our children's trust in God will be eroded, as will our God's trust in us to be pre-eminent in the Free World. WILLIAM B. LEY BLACKSBURG
