THOSE PESKY JOB APPLICANTS
THE FRONT page article on the Dec. 14 issue concerning the "pestering" job-seekers was of a questionable taste. There is little humor in the reporting of the innovative methods that these job-seekers used in their attempts to take care of their families. I am sure that the majority of these individuals are sincere and qualified applicants looking for a break. They are working as hard in fulfilling their job goals as Mr. Goodlatte was in November when he obtained his new job.It is unfortunate that the new congressman-elect feels so hounded by these "pesterers." It is a sad commentary on our current economic situation that 2,500 applicants would be competing for 14 positions. I hope that, despite the tone of the article, the congressman-elect does have a sincere interest in the less fortunate. If he does not, he will find that voters can be just as uncaring toward potential job-seekers. KEITH SPARKS ROANOKE
