MINER HURT IN FLASH FIRE RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL
A miner injured in a flash fire last week in a Virginia-West Virginia mine has been discharged from a hospital, officials said Saturday.Joe Curry of Berwind, W.Va., was discharged Friday from Humana-Clinch Valley Hospital in Richlands. He underwent treatment for smoke inhalation and facial burns sustained in the Tuesday fire, said a nursing supervisor who declined to identify herself.
Four others remain in Virginia hospitals after the fire at the Consolidation Coal Co. Amonate No. 1 mine on the Virginia-West Virginia border near Amonate, Va.
Curry speculated in a Thursday interview that the fire occurred when explosive methane gas was released in a roof fall.
