INVENTOR'S HOME FLUSH WITH SAVINGS
The realization that he and his wife were using about 10,000 gallons of water every two months sent Marvin Gilliam to the basement. After three months, the engineer developed the solution: a system that takes used bath and shower water to a 55-gallon drum in the basement, filters and agitates it, and sends it to the toilet tank.
"A toilet is the biggest water user in a home. Depending on the kind of toilet you have, you can use four to seven gallons of clean water every time you flush," Gilliam said.
Gilliam says he is so pleased with his invention that he expects to start producing it soon.
Federal regulations that take effect this year are driving up the cost of water, he said. Gilliam says he probably could market his invention in the West, where water is scarce and expensive.
