NAMES & CHANGES
Marriott names managerHERMAN TUCK has been named general manager at the Roanoke Airport Marriott hotel. He worked as resident manager in 1984 when the hotel opened and later was the facility's food and beverage director. Most recently, he has been director of rooms and conference services at the Lansdowne Conference Center in Washington.
A graduate of James Madison University, he is an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Roanoke Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Also, the Roanoke Marriott has appointed MARTIN SMITH as director of food and beverage service. He will direct those operations including catering, the Lilly's and Remington's restaurants and the Charades lounge. He previously worked as director of restaurants at the Goodwin Hotel in Hartford, Conn.
\ DISTRIBUTING
\ BILL THOMAS, Roanoke district manager for Orders Distributing Co., has retired. He has been with the wholesale floor covering distributor for 20 years. He will be succeeded by JANE ANN WILLIAMS, who has been named regional manager of operations for the company's branches in Roanoke and Johnson City, Tenn.

\ PETER W. KIPP, director of hotel and operating services at the Virginia Tech Donaldson Brown Center for Continuing Education, has been named General Manager of the Year by the Virginias Chapter of the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International.
\ INSURANCE
\ The Roanoke chapter of the American Society of CLU & ChFC (Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant) has awarded the CLU designation to three insurance professionals. They are GERALD W. GODSEY, Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States; PATRICIA S. HALL, Allstate Life Insurance Co.; and WARD B. HUFFMAN, Huffman Insurance Agency. JOHN P. HOUSTON of Farm Bureau Insurance in Floyd has earned the ChFC designation.

\ D. WAYNE OWENS has been promoted to assistant vice president of corporate safety at Rowe Furniture in Salem.
\ MEDICINE
\ STEVE WESBY, senior vice president at Roanoke Memorial Hospitals, has been awarded the Founders Medal of Honor by the Healthcare Financial Management Association. Cited for his contributions to health care management, Wesby is one of three of the 500-member Virginia Chapter of HFMA to receive the honor.

\ DONALD J. O'BRIAN has been appointed assistant vice president of quality management for Norfolk Southern Corp. He succeeds HAROLD C. MAUNEY JR. who became vice president of quality management Dec. 1. O'Brian most recently worked as director of statistics and reports in the accounting department.
\ ORGANIZATIONS
\ SUSAN W. HALBERT of Blacksburg has been elected to a one-year term on the board of directors of the National Safety Council. A project coordinator of the National 4-H Council, she will represent the youth activities division of the board.
\ SUSAN B. WILLIAMS has been elected to a two-year term as president of the Virginia Association of Area Agencies on Aging. She is the executive director of the League of Older Americans, Area Agency on Aging for Virginia's Fifth Planning District.
\ GEORGE W. DAWSON, president and chief executive officer of Centra Health in Lynchburg, has been elected chairman of the Virginia Hospital Association board of directors.
Also, HOUSTON L. BELL JR., executive vice president of Roanoke Memorial Hospitals, has been elected to the organization's board.
\ LAUREN EIB and ROBERT JERNIGAN have been named to the board of directors of the Virginia Chapter of the Public Risk Management Association. Eib works for the city of Roanoke and Jernigan works for Roanoke County.
\ The Child Abuse Prevention Council has elected four new members to its board of directors. They are: MELINDA COX, Center for Community Education & Special Events at Roanoke College; MARTHA STONEMAN, Mental Health Services of Roanoke Valley; SUSIE SIPOS, Sipos Marketing; and THAYER WALKER, Parents' Place.
\ The Mental Health Services board of directors has elected the following officers: chairman, RITA J. GLINIECKI; vice chairman, ONZLEE WARE; secretary, PAM COX; treasurer, JOHN M. HUDGINS. SUE LEHMBERG was elected as the Botetourt County representative on the executive committee.
Also, J. WILLIAM PISTNER has been appointed by Roanoke County to serve on the board of directors. He is vice president and employee relations manager with Dominion Bank.
