CHITWOOD, GEORGE W.
CHITWOOD, George W., 97, of 221 Kings Mountain Rd., Collinsville, died Monday, January 4, 1993, in Memorial Hospital of Martinsville. Born in Franklin County, April 21, 1895, he was the son of the late Julia Ann Wray and Steven Chitwood. He was retired from Stanley Furniture Co., and was a member of Koehler Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Edna Doyle of Snow Creek, Gladys Hicks of Rocky Mount, Dorothy Combs of Danville; five sons, roscoe Chitwood of Collinsville, Lawrence Chitwood of Stuart, James Chitwood of Columbus, Ohio, Eugene Chitwood of Martinsville, Randolph Chitwood of Bassett; thirty-six grandchildren, fifty-eight great-grandchildren and twenty-five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Bassett, with interment in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday at Collins Funeral Chapel, Bassett. Memorial contributions may be made to a rescue squad of donor's choice.
