WOMAN CHARGED IN DEC. 25 KILLING ATTEMPT

A Montgomery County woman has been charged with attempting to kill her husband on Christmas Day.

Debra L. Roach, 36, of Thomas Lane, also has been charged with attempted malicious wounding of Clarence D. Roach, 37, and using a firearm to commit a felony.

She is being held in the Montgomery County Jail in lieu of $300,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on Thursday, a magistrate said.

Clarence Roach was shot once in the head at about 6:30 a.m. on Dec. 25, investigator R.L. Hamlin of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said.

Hamlin said a bullet from a .380-caliber automatic handgun struck the man on the left side of the head beneath the temple.

Roach was not charged until Monday because authorities were investigating two versions of the shooting.

Hamlin said Clarence Roach said he was in bed when his wife came into the bedroom, kneeled beside him, kissed him and told him she loved him, then said she had a surprise for him.

Then he was shot, Roach told investigators.

Debra Roach said her husband had shot himself, Hamlin said.

Clarence Roach took a polygraph test which indicated he was being truthful, authorities said, and warrants were obtained against his wife.
