WHITTAKER, LUCY ETHEL THOMPSON

WHITTAKER, Lucy Ethel Thompson, 94, of Staffordsville, died Tuesday, January 5, 1993, in Giles Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Whittaker was a charter member of the Staffordsville Home Demonstration Club and was a member of the Sheffey United Methodist Church of Staffordsville. Mrs. Whittaker was born on October 9, 1898, at Staffordsville, and was a daughter of the late John F. and Lillian Carr Thompson. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lillian Lemons; and her husband, Tracy Whittaker. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Louise Whittaker of Galax; a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Jesse Johnson of Pearisburg; three grandchildren, Mary Lou W. Hoffman of Hopewell, Margaret J. Cooper of Staffordsville, Jay Christopher Johnson of Covington; four great-grandchildren, Tracey, Jason, Heather and Robert. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Givens Funeral Chapel, Pearisburg, with the Rev. Margaret Wood Johnston officiating. Burial will be in Birchlawn Burial Park. Friends may call at the Givens Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Wednesday.
