DEFENSE-CUTS HOTLINE SET UP

The Governor's Commission on Defense Conversion and Economic Development has set up a toll-free hotline to answer questions from individuals or companies affected by cuts in defense spending.

Anyone with questions or concerns about programs and resources available can call 800-374-9831.

Cathleen Magennis, co-chairwoman of the commission, said the hotline was set up to "make assistance accessible to everyone."

Calls are being answered by Virginia Employment Commission employees who will answer questions or make referrals to someone that can.

The commission also produced a brochure which lists some of the services available to workers affected by military cuts. It can be obtained by calling the toll-free number or by visiting a local Virginia Employment Commission Job Service office.
