MOBILE-HOME FIRE UNDER INVESTIGATION IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY

Authorities are investigating a fire in a mobile home Tuesday night in Merrimac as a possible arson. The fire at 1103 Arden Lane, the home of David W. Smith, was reported at 7:50 p.m. by a neighbor, said Lt. O.P. Ramsey of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

The fire started just inside a patio door on the floor of a den and appeared to have been fueled by a flammable substance, Ramsey said. "We feel fairly certain it's an arson," he said.

No one was at home when the fire was reported. The double-wide home was not destroyed, but was so heavily burned and damaged by smoke it probably is a total loss, Ramsey said.
