DOT SCRUBS SCHOOL SYMBOL OFF ROADS

The state Department of Transportation diverted traffic as eight men began scrubbing the symbol of Tabb High School spirit off the roads.

The Transportation Department called the painted tiger paws decorating roads to the school hazardous vandalism and ordered them removed.

The order was an easy target for Tabb-area residents.

"The state must have a lot of money," said Lois McCarthy, parent of a Tabb High student. "Maybe we'll see how much money they have when people go out and paint them over again. If it takes eight people to get rid of a tiger paw, I wonder how many it takes to fix a pothole?"

The paws caught the Transportation Department's attention in December when officials of nearby Coventry Elementary School requested permission to paint their cougar mascot on a road.
