12 WRESTLERS REMAIN UNBEATEN

As this week began, 12 wrestlers on the 12 Roanoke Metro teams were still undefeated after at least two decisions.

The honor list ranged from North Cross eighth-grader Danny Cho, a very promising 130-pounder whom Coach Ed Handerson calls a "real athlete with a bright future in wrestling," to a group of proven seniors.

One of the proven seniors is Franklin County captain Hasani Menefee, a 152-pounder. Menefee is the only Metro wrestler who came home with an individual title in last week's competitive, 23-team Grundy Invitational.

Keno Shepherd, William Fleming's outstanding 103-pounder, seems headed for another record season.

William Byrd sophomore Patrick Henderson, who has nine victories at 125, was named the outstanding wrestler in the December Turner Ashby Invitational. He also won his weight class in the recent Carroll County eight-team invitational.

Byrd also had three other champions - senior Chad White (119), junior Gavin Hard (135) and undefeated senior heavyweight Kyle Hamman - at the Carroll County meet.

Franklin County made a good showing at Grundy by placing a close fourth in the meet. Northside, the Salem Ironman champion & Carroll County Invitational co-champion, was fifth, and Cave Spring placed eighth.

Two big Blue Ridge District matches are set for tonight - Northside at Lord Botetourt and undefeated Salem at William Byrd. Meanwhile, powerful Group A Glenvar is at home in a three-way meet with Blacksburg and Staunton River.

Coach Fred Wagner's Northside crew will be going after its 32nd consecutive dual meet victory.
