CRAIG SUPERVISORS RE-ELECT CHAIRMAN, VICE CHAIRMAN

The Craig County Board of Supervisors made few changes during its reorganization meeting Monday. Zane M. Jones was re-elected chairman, and John M. Lee was re-elected vice chairman.

The supervisors also kept their same meeting schedule - the first Monday of each month at 3:30 p.m. and the third Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the county courthouse in New Castle.

The supervisors did, however, appoint Donald Caldwell, the newest board member, to the Craig-New Castle Public Service Authority.

Caldwell, of New Castle, was appointed to the Board of Supervisors in December to fill a vacancy left by the November death of Virginia Caldwell. He had been chairman of the authority until resigning from the New Castle Town Council to take the supervisors' seat.

Lee, the supervisors' representative to the public service authority, stepped aside so Donald Caldwell could be appointed.

In another matter, the supervisors learned that the Center for Rural Development has approved a $15,000 grant to the Appalachian Regional Recycling Consortium. The money will be used to buy heavy equipment to shred tires and other difficult-to-handle recyclable materials.

The recycling consortium, of which Craig is a member, was formed by a group of smaller localities in Southwest Virginia to work cooperatively on big projects that none of the communities alone could accomplish.
