STEEPLECHASE CLUB MEETS GOAL FOR POOL
Groundbreaking for a new swimming pool just inside the Steeplechase subdivision is expected to get under way by February.Orchards resident Ron Barberie, a member of a six-member committee representing the Roanoke County and southeast Botetourt County communities that would be served by the pool, said the Neighborhood Swim Club has met the 100-member goal it set in order for excavation to proceed. However, up to 300 members will be admitted to the club for the 1992-93 season.
With developer Riley Overbay committed to proceeding with the project, Barberie said the next steps are to clear the land; put up a site-identification sign; distribute more fliers to solicit members; and set up committees to establish club rules, regulations and bylaws.
Barberie also is investigating options for offering swimming lessons and establishing a Roanoke Valley Aquatic Association swim team at the pool.
