TOP-SCORING PATRIOTS TO RETURN

Patrick Henry will have its two leading scorers back when the Patriots play at Heritage in boys' basketball Saturday.

Shannon Taylor (16.2 points per game), a 6-foot-5 junior center, and Ike Williams (8.0 ppg.), a 5-11 senior guard, were suspended for the opening Roanoke Valley District game at Pulaski County this past Tuesday. The defending RVD champion Patriots lost 60-46.

Williams was held out for missing a practice, and Taylor, who had missed a game for not attending a practice, was suspended for an altercation with 6-4 junior center John Trinidad, a reserve.

PH coach Woody Deans said Trinidad has been suspended for the remainder of the season for "repeated behavioral incidences not becoming to a student athlete."

In other basketball:

\ North Cross 86, Holy Cross 66: Aaron Marley scored 10 of his team-high 19 points in a decisive third quarter that boosted the host Raiders past the Gaels in a Virginia Independent Conference game. North Cross (8-2 overall, 1-0 VIC) led 41-39 at halftime but outscored Holy Cross 27-8 in the third quarter. Marcus Cardwell had eight of his 18 points and Monty Smith seven of his 12 points in that quarter. Holy Cross is 7-2 and 2-1.
