SISISKY IS PROPOSED AS NAVY SECRETARY
Rep. Norman Sisisky, D-Petersburg, has been proposed to be the secretary of the Navy in President-elect Clinton's administration, according to a published report.Sen. John Warner, R-Va. - a former Navy secretary under Presidents Nixon and Ford - wrote Clinton last month to recommend Sisisky, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports in its editions today.
Warner also spoke Wednesday with Rep. Les Aspin, Clinton's choice for secretary of defense, about Sisisky, the Times-Dispatch said.
Sisisky told the newspaper he is not pursuing the post, but was not ruling it out, either.
In his Dec. 21 letter to Clinton, Warner called Sisisky a "colleague and trusted friend."
Sisisky "served briefly as an enlisted man in the Navy at the end of World War II and has been a true leader in maritime policy throughout his career on the House Armed Services Committee," Warner wrote.
Sisisky, who is starting his sixth House term this week, is 65.
