$26,000 IN CAMPAIGN FINES ARE COLLECTED
The state Board of Elections has collected $26,000 in fines from Gov. Douglas Wilder's campaign organization, legislators and others.The board began collecting the fines when a law establishing civil penalties for violating campaign laws went into effect 18 months ago. Nearly all the fines were levied for filing campaign disclosure statements late.
Those fined include a political action committee affiliated with Wilder; the Senate majority leader, Hunter Andrews; the president pro tem of the Senate, Stanley Walker of Norfolk; and a PAC affiliated with House Majority Leader Richard Cranwell, D-Vinton.
