LANCERS BEAT CAVS 70-54 TO GO 9-0
Ronnie Jackson's 24 points paced four Laurel Park players in double figures as the unbeaten Lancers rolled to a 70-54 win over Fieldale-Collinsville in a Piedmont District boys' basketball game Friday night.The Lancers (9-0 overall, 7-0 district) opened a 10-point first- quarter lead and coasted the rest of the way.
Lonzy Robertson contributed 15 points for Laurel Park, and Warrick Scott and Chauncey Strange added 10 apiece.
The Cavaliers (5-4, 3-4) were led by Lemuel Jones, who scored a game-high 28 points, including 14 in the third quarter. \

STUART - The Cavaliers outscored the Cougars 25-13 in the third quarter, then held on for the Piedmont District victory.
Rodney Williams had seven of his 11 points in the quarter, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer for a 54-43 lead. Patrick County (1-7, 0-7) cut the margin to 54-52 in the fourth but got no closer.
Bobby Greene led Chatham (3-6, 3-4) with 17 points and Ben Wright had 14. Leading scorer LaVelton Pope was in foul trouble most of the game and was held to five points, all in the third-quarter outburst.
Chris Reynolds led Patrick County with 14. \

BASSETT - Art Wade poured in 37 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, as the Bengals (2-7, 2-5) rallied to defeat the Wildcats (4-6, 2-5) in Piedmont District play.
Dan River led 60-57 after three quarters behind point guard Brian Gunn, who had 22 points. However, Gunn went out of the game with a twisted left ankle with six minutes to go to open the door for Bassett, which outscored Dan River 29-12 in the fourth.
Wade finished 10-of-17 from the field, including one 3-pointer, and was 14-of-18 from the free-throw line. Darryle Hand had 17 points and Steve Pilson 13 for Bassett. \

COVINGTON - The underdog Chargers used their pressing man-to-man defense to stifle the previously unbeaten Fighting Blues in a Pioneer District game.
Bath County (5-5, 1-0) held Parry McCluer (5-1, 1-1) to eight points in the third quarter in building a 52-43 lead.
Matt Sherrard had 19 points and Craig Phillips added 17 points for Bath County. Center Tyler McCune put in 11 points while helping the Chargers dominate the inside play.
Nathan Baker had 21 points for Parry McCluer, and Jason Baker added 16.

CHILHOWIE - Aaron Black had 12 of his 34 points in a decisive fourth quarter that lifted the Maroons over the Warriors in a Hogoheegee District game.
The score was 39-39 at halftime and Chilhowie was up by one point after the third quarter. The Warriors (3-4, 1-3) had increased their lead to eight with 1:58 remaining.
Tim Polk led Chilhowie in scoring with 23, D.J. Preston added 18 and Andy Blevins put in 10.
For George Wythe, Andre Cook had 19 points and Tracy Brown 11. \

SALTVILLE - Every player scored for the Panthers (6-1, 3-0) in the Hogoheegee District game.
Johnny Cregger scored 23 points to lead the way for Northwood and added 14 rebounds and nine assists.
Rusty Crigger scored 13 for the Indians (2-5, 2-2.). \

DRY FORK - Five Warriors scored in double figures as Magna Vista rolled over the Trojans in a Piedmont District game.
Rodney Tanks led Magna Vista (8-1, 8-0) with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Tony Holmes had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Kevin Foster added 14 points, Ivan Penn 11 and Rodney Redd 10.
For Tunstall (5-5, 1-4), Khris Law and Tarrace Carter notched 20 points each and Chris Walton added 19.
The Warriors outrebounded the Trojans 51-34. \

COVINGTON - Guard Van Wallace, Timesland's leading scorer, pumped in 28 points as the Cougars (3-5, 1-1) rumbled past the Knights (2-8, 1-1) in a Pioneer District game.
Covington led almost all the way, expanding a 46-34 halftime lead with a 22-10 third-quarter burst.
Troy Thompson paced James River with 13 points, followed by Romond Waldron and Keith Bryant with 10 apiece. Chuck Morris added 13 for Covington. \

MARION - The Scarlet Hurricane, stinging from a loss this week to Abingdon, rebounded against the Generals, shooting a season-high 54 percent in the Highlands District romp.
Brian Cregger paced four double-figure scorers for Marion with 17 points. Jimmie Morris had 15, and Jason Lefler and Quentin Fisher contributed 12 and 11, respectively, for Marion (5-3, 1-1).
Mark Woliver paced Lee (1-7, 0-2) with 17 points.

Highland 59
MONTEREY - Brad Melton scored 19 points as the Highlanders converted several Rams turnovers into points and pulled away for the Pioneer district victory.
Glenvar (5-3, 2-0) jumped out to a 16-7 lead in the first quarter. Highland battled back but turned over the ball in several key situations.
Matt Woolwine paced the Highlanders with 18 points. David Robinson scored 12 points and Jason Woolwine added 10.
Chris Shill led the Rams with 21 points. John Hall had 10 rebounds for Highland (2-4, 0-2).
\ Thursday's Game
Rural Retreat 81, Castlewood 79: A 3-point goal by Bo Lethco with three seconds remaining gave the Indians a come-from-behind victory over the Blue Devils in a Hogoheegee District boys' game.
The final score was Rural Retreat's first lead since the opening minutes. The Indians trailed by 13 in the first half but closed to 41-38 by halftime. Midway through the third quarter the Blue Devils had built their lead to 16 points, but Rural Retreat slowly closed the gap, going ahead on Lethco's shot from the right wing. Castlewood got off one last shot, missing from half court at the buzzer.
Lethco finished with five points. Rusty Crigger led Rural Retreat (2-4 overall, 2-1 district) with 18 points, Bradley Guynn had 17 points and 10 rebounds, Stephen Pratt had 15 points and 13 rebounds, Michael Houseman added 12 points and Jason Childers had 10 points.
For Castlewood (1-4, 0-2), O.J. Williams had 19 points. \
