EAGLES SURGE PAST HALIFAX COUNTY 69-53
Franklin County used full-court pressure to wear down Halifax County in the second half for a 69-53 non-district boys' basketball victory Friday night.Halifax County (6-2) led 18-10 before the Eagles mounted their comeback.
Tremayne McHeimer scored 18 points and Robert Cooke had 15 points and 11 rebounds to pace Franklin County (6-3).
Calvin Slayton had 16 for the Comets. \

INDEPENDENCE - Kevin King scored 23 points and sank six of six free throws in the last 1:14 as the Rockets soared past the Blue Devils for a Mountain Empire District victory.
Bland (2-4, 3-4) was ahead throughout the game and had an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter. Grayson County battled back and took a 43-42 lead, but the Rockets hit eight of nine free throws in the final minutes to win.
Mitch Hawks led the Blue Devils (5-1, 6-3) with 14 points. Bryan Boyer scored 13 and Mike Brown added 12. \

SHAWSVILLE - Mike Hylton scored 22 points and Jason Light added 16 as the Buffaloes cruised past the Shawnees in a Mountain Empire District game.
For Shawsville (2-7, 1-5), Keith Martin scored 14 points, Mike Roop 12, Jeremy Nichols 11 and Joey Underwood 10. \

PEARISBURG - Steve Widner had 19 points, including three 3-pointers, and the Pioneers edged the Spartans in a Mountain Empire District game.
After falling behind 17-8 after the first quarter, Giles outscored Fort Chiswell 35-24 in the second and third quarters lead 43-41. However, the Spartans were outscored 17-13 in the final quarter.
Jody Burnett finished with 11 points and Matt Chumbley 10 for Fort Chiswell.
Mitch Reed led Giles (2-5) with 15 points.

RINER - Wilbert Campbell made two steals with 32 seconds to go and sank several free throws to lead the Eagles over the Maroon Tide in a Mountain Empire District game.
The game was even through the first three quarters. Matt Snow came off the bench in the fourth quarter and hit three layups to put the Galax up by 11 with 1:59 left.
Auburn fouled the Eagles several times and Galax missed its first three one-and-ones. Mike Bower was fouled making a 3-point play and pulled the Maroon Tide to two points down.
Campbell's free throws gave Galax (5-2, 4-1) a five-point win.
Terry Millirons led Auburn (6-3, 4-2) with 13 points, and Andy Johnson added 12. \
Narrows 50

ROCKY GAP - Chad Fleeman scored 22 points, including two 3-pointers in the second half that snuffed out an Eagles run, leading the Green Wave to the Mountain Empire District win.
Anthony Wiley added 13 points for Narrows (4-3, 3-2).
Cold-shooting Rocky Gap (0-6, 0-5) was paced by Juan Garcia's 13 points.

BEDFORD - Amherst County used a 10-0 run at the end of the third quarter and start of the fourth to put away the Minutemen in a Seminole District game.
Liberty (3-6, 3-6) led by four at halftime.
Justin Johannes with 24 points and Chuck Gardner with 12 led the Lancers (7-2, 7-2).
Jerry Padgett had 14 for Liberty.

FOREST - Ryan Gilleland scored 18 points and Anthony Poindexter added 12 to lead the Cavaliers to the Seminole District victory over the Devils.
