RAMPAGE HAS 2 ALL-STARS
Defenseman Trevor Smith and center Scott Burfoot of the Roanoke Valley Rampage on Friday were selected to the Eastern Division squad for the first-ever East Coast Hockey League All-Star Game.The game is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 2, in Wheeling, W.Va.
Smith, who ranks among the top-scoring defenseman in the ECHL with 11 goals and 27 assists, was the second-leading vote-getter among Eastern Division defensemen and will start. Burfoot, the Rampage's second-leading scorer with 44 points, will be one of three centers on the 17-man squad.
The teams were selected through balloting from the league's 15 head coaches and one media representative from each city.
Five Hampton Roads players made the East squad. Wheeling, which is leading the Eastern Division, had four players selected. Roanoke Valley, Raleigh and Greensboro each had two chosen, and Richmond and Johnstown had one each.
Toledo led the Western Division squad with four players selected. Dayton and Birmingham each placed three players on the team. Nashville and Columbus had two picked, and Knoxville, Louisville and Erie each had one chosen.
John Brophy, who has led Hampton Roads to consecutive ECHL championships, will coach the East squad, and Louisville's Warren Young will guide the West team.
