RICE FOOTBALL ASSISTANT WILL NOT TAKE TECH POSITION
Rice University offensive line coach John Zernheldt has turned down a chance to take the same position at Virginia Tech.Zernheldt, who left Maryland for Rice in 1991 when Joe Krivak resigned as Terrapins coach, said Saturday he won't be moving to Blacksburg.
"I don't want to make a move for the sake of making a move," he said.
Tech head coach Frank Beamer coached Zernheldt on Maryland's freshman football team and offered him the job during last week's coaches' convention. Zernheldt would not have become Tech's offensive coordinator.
Zernheldt said he and his family were comfortable at Rice.
"It was a real hard decision," he said.
