OBIT PAPPAS, NICHOLAS C.

PAPPAS, Nicholas C., 68, of Salem, died Friday, January 8, 1993. He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Roanoke where he was a former member of the church council. Mr. Pappas was also a former member of St. George's Greek Orthodox Church in Schenectady, N.Y., where he served on the church board of directors for many years. An honors graduate of North Carolina State University class of 1948, Mr. Pappas was an electrical engineer who installed automated drive systems for foreign and domestic steel mills. Later in his career, he specified these systems. He retired from General Electric in 1984, and was an U.S. Army Signal Corps veteran of World War II. Surviving is his wife, Marie E. Pappas; his children, Christopher A. Pappas of Salem; Catherine P. McGinnis and husband, William T. McGinnis Jr., Ferrum; James M. Pappas and wife, Denise Pappas, Roanoke; one brother and sister-in-law, Milton and Elizabeth Pappas, Jacksonville, Fla.; his grandchildren, Katie Marie Pappas, Erin McGinnis, Nicholas F. Pappas; and a loving aunt, Ann Kardamis, Fairfield, Conn. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel after 7:30 p.m. Sunday where a Trisagion prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. The Rev. Nicholas Bacalis will officiate. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church or the American Heart Association. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel.
