MISSING MAN FOUND DEAD ON MOUNTAIN

A four-day search for a man who wandered from a Williamson Road adult home ended Sunday afternoon when the man's body was found on Tinker Mountain.

Authorities identified the body as that of Frank M. Austin, 67, a resident of Hollins Manor Adult Care.

Authorities said they suspected that Austin had died from exposure, but could not say for sure until a medical examiner had looked at the body.

"We don't suspect any foul play," said Sgt. L.B. Carr of the Botetourt County Sheriff's Department.

Austin had been reported missing Wednesday night about 8 p.m. With darkness approaching Sunday, searchers were ready to call it a day when they found the body about halfway up Tinker Mountain, about two miles from Hollins Manor, Carr said.

Austin had been a resident of the adult home for about 13 years, Carr said.

The body was taken to Rader Funeral Home in Troutville, where a local medical examiner will determine if an autopsy is needed.
