MARS HILL PICKS FERRUM ASSISTANT AS HEAD COACH
Tim Clifton, coordinator for six seasons of Ferrum's high-powered offense, has been hired as head football coach at Mars Hill, officials said Monday."While Tim's resume is impressive, his personality makes even more of an impact," Mars Hill athletic director Ed Hoffmeyer said. "He will bring great enthusiasm to our program. His ability to relate to people one on one will be a major asset in recruiting as well as in building the community support vital to our success."
During Clifton's time at Ferrum, the Panthers averaged 33 points per game. His 1990 offense set an NCAA Division III record in rushing yards per game with 434.7.
Mars Hill will be competing in Division II next fall.
Clifton was an offensive assistant at South Carolina and VMI before taking over as offensive coordinator at Fayetteville State. He left there for his job at Ferrum.
