IN SERVICE

Marine Lance Cpl. ADAM W. STRICKLER, son of George J. and Brenda Finley of Elliston, is serving with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit off the coast of Somalia.

He recently participated in an early-morning amphibious landing from a three-ship task unit.

Others participating in Operation Restore Hope:

\ TROY H. DALTON, DAVID W. LONG, JASON W. HALE, all Navy petty officers 3rd class, arrived off the coast of Somalia aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, based in San Diego.

The ship had been on a six-month tour of the Western Pacific.

Dalton is the son of Janet P. and Troy H. Dalton Sr. of Radford.

Long is the son of Phyllis T. Long of Blacksburg. Hale is the son of Brenda L. Hale of Willis.

Those completing special training include:

Navy Lt. J.G. DOUGLAS E. BALDWIN, son of Edward and Pat Baldwin of Radford, graduated from Naval Aviation Training and received his aviator wings at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class KELLEY E. HESLEP, son of Kelley E. and Peggy D. Heslep of Elliston, has completed the Navy security guard course and was promoted to his present rank.

Marine Pfc. DAVID W. LAWSON, son of David J. Lawson and KATHY T. RICHARDS, both of Pulaski, deployed with 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, Camp Lejeune, N.C., for six months in Okinawa, Japan.

Those reporting for duty include:

Air Force Staff Sgt. CLYDE A. BURNETT, son of Beatrice J. Akers, stepson of Russell Akers and grandson of Mary A. Cooley of Floyd, has arrived for duty as a linguist at Fort George G. Meade, Laurel, Md.

Air Force Sgt. JAMES E. FRAZIER, son of James E. and Melanie C. Frazier of Pearisburg, has arrived for duty as a construction equipment operator at Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier City, La.

Army Reserve Pvt. CHRISTOPHER C. GOWDY, son of Judy Craig of Pearisburg, recently completed basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
