FERRUM TRIPS EMORY & HENRY

Quincy Quick scored 16 points and Ferrum College overcame a poor shooting night to beat Emory & Henry 74-59 in a Division III college basketball game Monday night.

The Panthers (9-3) shot only 34 percent from the field for the game, but Emory & Henry (10-1) managed to hit only 31 percent.

Jerry Scarborough added 11 points for Ferrum, which led 36-33 at halftime before pulling away.

The Wasps got 16 points from Derek Elmore and 15 from Teddy Gibson, but Emory & Henry was hindered by its poor shooting performance, making only 22 of 72 field-goal attempts.

Ferrum took control when Emory & Henry went more than six minutes in the second half without scoring.

"I thought we played real good defense," said Ferrum coach Bill Pullen. "I knew one team was going to get tired, and down the stretch I think they got tired."

Emory & Henry was ranked No. 1 in the Division III South Atlantic Region poll released Monday. Ferrum was ranked No. 5.

"This was a big win for us," said Pullen. "They're all big, but this is the biggest of the year."
