SCOTT LEADS MAROONS TO WIN

Hillary Scott had a homecoming game to remember.

Scott, the Roanoke College junior swingman who played at E.C. Glass High, scored a career-high 32 points to lead the Maroons to an 81-70 basketball victory over Lynchburg.

Scott, Roanoke's scoring leader with a 21-point average, scored nine of the Maroons' last 12 points as coach Page Moir's club held off the Hornets.

The Old Dominion Athletic Conference game was as sloppy as the weather outside Turner Gym. The teams combined for 48 turnovers and 54 fouls, and Lynchburg scoring leader Anthony Cummings - a Roanoke resident - was the most-plagued performer.

Cummings, the former Cave Spring High player, fouled out with only seven points in 14 minutes as coach Joe Davis' team fell to its sixth straight loss.

Roanoke (9-2 overall, 4-1 ODAC) struggled offensively, and the Hornets cut their deficit to 48-47 with 13 1/2 minutes left. Cummings played only two minutes after that and Roanoke converted 12 of its last 14 free throws.

Lynchburg (2-7, 0-3) was led by Tirrell White's 16 points.

For Roanoke, which entertains Bridgewater on Thursday night at Bast Center, Rick Becker missed his second straight game with a shoulder injury.

Lynchburg was playing its second game without sophomore point guard Brian Coleman. He started the first month of the season before becoming academically ineligible.
