OBIT EDWARDS, REV. BARNARD P.
EDWARDS, Rev. Barnard P., 82, of Salem, died on January 10, 1993 in a local
Salem hospital. Rev. Edwards was a native of Carroll County. He graduated from
Lynchburg College, went on to attend the University of Chicago. He then
graduated from the Lexington Theological Seminary. He also was past staff
member at Lynchburg College where he served as Director of church relations.
He retired as pastor of the First Christian Church in Salem where he had been
pastor from 1970 - 1977. He was very active with church youth and adult
Conferences throughout his many years as a minister. He also was an
accomplished musician and loved to share his talents with the community and
family. He is survived by his wife, Rubye Fleenor Edward; a son Rev. David
Livingstone Edwards, Lynchburg; two daughters, Rev. Sylvia Edwards Mill,
Indianapolis, Ind. and Carol Louise Edwards, Salem; a sister, Odessa Edwards,
Elkton, N.C.; five grandchildren, John Stuart Mill and Bonnie Leigh Mill, both
of Indianapolis, Ind. and David Edward Mill, Cincinnati, Ohio; Kent Ware
Edwards, Shelley Talbot Edwards, both of Lynchburg. A graveside service will
be held on Wednesday, 11 a.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park by the Rev. Wayne
McCauley. The family will receive friends at John M. Oakey and Son, Salem
Funeral Home from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The family requests that contributions be
made to First Christian Church Memorial Fund, 712 Front Ave., Salem, Va. 24153
and the Salem Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 291, Salem, Va. 24153. A memorial service
will be held at First Christian Church in Salem on Thursday, 11 a.m.
