OBIT NELSON, PAUL H.

NELSON, Paul H., 59, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, January 9, 1993. He went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Nelson served in the armed forces during the Korean conflict, and was the owner of Nelson Construction Co. He was a faithful member and trustee of Clearbrook Baptist Church where he was very active in the church music program. Mr. Nelson played banjo for the N&W String Band. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Lector Nelson, of Hardy. Surviving are his devoted wife, Barbara Payne Nelson; a daughter, Tammy L. Nelson, Roanoke; a daughter and son-in-law, Valeria and Larry Via, Roanoke; two sisters, Doris Nelson Leftwich of Hardy, Norma Nelson Wofford of Wilmington, N.C.; three brothers, James T. Nelson, Roy D. Nelson, both of Hardy, Carl E. Nelson of Colmar Manor, Md.; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their love and appreciation to the doctors and nursing staff at the VA Medical Center, Third Floor, for the wonderful care and support during Mr. Nelson's illness. Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with Pastor Chester Lykins and the Rev. Olander English officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
