VMI GRAD NOMINATED FOR 4-STAR GENERAL

Lt. Gen. J.H. Binford Peay III, a 1962 Virginia Military Institute graduate, has been nominated for appointment as a four-star general, according to a U.S. Army news release Tuesday.

The nomination for the Vietnam and Operation Desert Storm veteran includes assignment as the Army's vice chief of staff, the release said.

Originally from Richmond, Peay began his military career as a second lieutenant upon graduating from VMI with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

Peay, 52, commanded the 101st Airborne Division during the Gulf War. He is serving as the Army's deputy chief of staff for operations and plans. - Staff report
