TOUR GROUP HONORS CRUISE-BOAT OPERATORS
A regional tourism group has recognized Joyce and Howard Barrett with an award for their cruise boat enterprise on Claytor Lake.
The 19-county Virginia's Southwest Blue Ridge Highlands Inc. presented a 1992 outstanding achievement award to the Barretts and their New River Cruise Co. for efforts to enrich the lives and futures of Southwest Virginia residents.
The award was made last week at the tourism promotional group's regional meeting, held at Duffield in Scott County.
New River Cruise Co. is booking tour-bus groups and others for trips on its 140-passenger Pioneer Maid next summer, Howard Barrett said. Wedding rehearsals on board the double-decker boat have proved unexpectedly popular, he said, and the company is getting several of those bookings.
