OBIT HOUNSHELL, CHARLES DAVID
HOUNSHELL, Charles David, 72, of 3906 Watauga Dr., Greensboro, N.C., died
Monday, January 11, 1993 at Greensboro Health Care Center. Memorial services
will be held at a later date. He was a native of Rural Retreat, Va., a retired
Captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve and served during World War II. He served as
a professor of Political Science and Associate Dean of Emory University from
1950 to 1966, Dean of Newcomb College from 1966 to 1969, President of
Birmingham Southern College from 1969 to 1971, Special Assistant to the
President at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa from 1971 to 1972, Vice
Chairman of Administration at UNC-G from 1972 to 1980 and Professor of
Political Science at UNC-G from 1972 until his retirement in 1986. He was a
member of West Market Street United Methodist Church. He is survived by his
wife, Elizabeth Yoak Hounshell of the residence; a son, William Douglas
Hounshell, Berkley, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth H. Tripp, Greenville,
N.C.; brothers, Fred Hounshell, Rural Retreat, Va., Dallas Hounshell,
Franklinton, La.; sisters, Mrs. Anna H. Guy, Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Mabel H.
Creger, Marietta, Ga.; five grandchildren. The family will receive friends at
Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home, Greensboro, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials
may be made to Emory and Henry College in Emory, Va., the United Parkinson's
Foundation or the charity of the donors choice.
