AIRMAN STACY D. WHITLOCK, son of Lois A. Whitlock of 2429 Longview Ave., has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Whitlock is a 1992 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

\ NAVY AIRMAN RECRUIT RUSSELL D. HUGGETT, son of Diann M. Huggett of Roanoke, recently arrived off the coast of Somalia aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk to help with the relief effort Operation Restore Hope.

Huggett is a 1991 graduate of Salem High School.

\ LANCE CPL. JAMES M. WRIGHT, son of Frances L. and James M. Wright Sr. of 101 Giles Ave., Vinton, recently left on a six-month tour of duty to the Western Pacific with the 2nd Marine Regiment, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

The battalion will be based in Okinawa, Japan, while conducting short training exercises in other areas in the region.

Wright is a 1988 graduate of William Byrd High School.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS JAY L. BROWN, son of Josie E. Brown of 2212 Ridgefield St. N.E., recently reported for duty aboard the tank landing ship USS Cayuga, based in Long Beach, Calif.

Brown is a 1990 graduate of Franklin County High School.

\ NAVY SEAMAN REGINALD M. JACKSON, son of John L. and Regina T. Jackson of 2010 King Charles Ave. S.E., recently reported for duty aboard the tank landing ship USS Cayuga, based in Long Beach, Calif.

Jackson is a 1991 graduate of William Fleming High School.

\ CPL. ROBERT C. TAYLOR, son of Patsy D. Haynes of Troutville, recently returned from a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C., as part of Mediterranean Amphibious Ready Group 2-92.

Taylor is a 1988 graduate of Northside High School.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 2ND CLASS ROLAND L. TOMPKINS, son of Marrietta and Moody K. Keener Jr. of 1743 Stonemill Drive, Salem, recently received a letter of commendation.

Tompkins was cited for superior performance while assigned with Fleet Logistics Support Squadron-54, Naval Air Station, New Orleans.

Tompkins graduated from Glenvar High School in 1977.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS JASON P. JOHNSON, son of Patsy G. and Henry P. Johnson Jr. of 949 Hartsook Blvd., recently reported for duty with Helicopter Combat Support Squadron Six, based at the Norfolk Naval Air Station.

Johnson is a 1988 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

\ AIRMAN RICHARD D. BURKETT, son of Leslie D. Burkett of 2028 Denise Circle, has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Burkett is a 1991 graduate of William Byrd High School.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS JONATHAN D. BOOTH, son of Brenda L. McDaniel of 2668 Stanford Drive, Salem, and Butch Booth of 517 Gladies St. N.W., Roanoke, has been promoted to his present rank while serving on the Indian Ocean island of Diego Garcia.

Booth is a 1991 graduate of Glenvar High School.

\ AIRMAN JOHN C. KEMPER, son of Harry L. and Mary L. Kemper of 2131 Courtland Road, has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Kemper is a 1992 graduate of William Fleming High School.

\ PVT. MARK C. BOWLING, son of William S. Bowling of 1707 Ellis Court and Linda A. Whitlock of 2742 Fletcher Circle, Salem, has completed basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Bowling is a 1992 graduate of Salem High School.
