RU BLACK-HISTORY EVENTS START MONDAY
Radford University will kick off its Black History Month celebration Monday at 6 p.m. in Heth Hall's Highland Room.Performer John Morrison will recite excerpts from several of the slain civil-rights leader's speeches.
Other events include an appearance by rap artist Ice-T on Feb. 11, a play about the plight of black men on Jan. 27, a televised conference with noted black authors on Feb. 3 and the university's annual step show with comedian A.J. Jamal on Feb. 20.
The celebration ends with a workshop on the contributions of African music and dance to American jazz forms.
Drummers Khalid Saleem and Beverly Botsford, former members of the African American Dance Ensemble, will lead the workshop.
It will run from Feb. 28 to March 3 with a public concert March 2 in Preston Auditorium.
