OPTOMETRISTS OFFER FREE EYE EXAMS
Three area optometrists, Dr. Steve Jacobs of Blacksburg, Dr. Becky Mann and Dr. Scott Mann both of Christiansburg are providing free eye examinations to low income workers and their families through a program called Vision USA, sponsored by the American Optometric Association, the Virginia Optometric Association and the Southwest Virginia Optometric Society.People eligible for the program will receive glasses, if needed, for a small fee or donation.
During January, low-income working people can be screened for eligibility for Vision USA by calling at (800) 766-4466.
To qualify for the free eye care people must have a job or live in a household where there is one working member, have no private or government health insurance, have income below an established level based on family size and have had no eye examination within the past 12 months.
The program is available to all ages.
