CELEBRATION'S ALSO FOR LEE-JACKSON

AS WE APPROACH another anniversary of Robert E. Lee and T.J. Jackson's birthdays, I see you have again this year failed to mention any of the activities that will be going on around the state and in our area to commemorate it. You are not soliciting information from readers as to what might be planned. Conversely, I have noticed almost daily reminders for readers to send in announcements as to what is planned in celebration of the great Dr. King. Are you purposely snubbing Lee and Jackson? Why are you deliberately choosing to promote King and ignore the noble Lee and Jackson?

Please do your homework and try to objectively report the truth on the War for Southern Independence. I am sick of all the lies and distortions. You should be educating the public with reasonable journalism based on facts. Don't muddy the memory of most Confederates because you equate everything associated with that noble struggle with the ugliness of racism. If character and nobleness of purpose could win wars, the Confederate States of America would exist today, probably with much better race relations than currently exist across this land.

I believe the Roanoke Times & World-News is practicing character assassination by ignoring two of our greatest heroes. May you yet live to see the light. W. DAVID CARLSON RADFORD
