WYTHE SCHOOLS HOPE TO CURB ABSENTEEISM

Wythe County school officials decided to seek ways to curb school absenteeism after learning that 39 students each missed more than 50 days of school during the 1991-92 school year.

Statistics presented to the School Board Wednesday also showed that 105 students missed between 30 and 39 days, 261 were absent 20 to 30 days, and 1,122 missed 10 to 19 days during the previous school year.

The board will hold a public hearing on its proposed 1993-94 budget Feb. 10 at 10 a.m.
